PHOENIX, February 2, 2026. OpenSystems Media reached another milestone on February 1st, as it celebrated its 45th anniversary as an embedded media company. For the past four and half decades, OpenSystems Media (OSM) has been at the forefront of both print and online media.
“I’m excited to celebrate the 45-year anniversary at OpenSystems Media. My father started the company in 1981 and it is my 29th year working here. We have seen a lot of positive growth and assembled a great team,” said Patrick Hopper, Publisher and Co-President.
“As we head toward our 50th year, our company’s theme will be ‘Leadership in Embedded’,” noted John McHale, Co-President. “Our two brands, Military Embedded Systems and Embedded Computing Design, lead their respective industries and we look to expand not only our footprint but also our role as thought leaders and influencers in these spaces in the coming years.”
In 1981, OpenSystems Media’s first publication, VMEbus Systems, covered the VMEbus standard; that title is still published today as VITA Technologies. In addition to VITA, OSM also produces the annual magazines for key military open standards including the Sensor Open Systems Architecture, or SOSA, Technical Standard and the Future Airborne Capability Environment, or FACE, Technical Standard.
From its beginning, OSM has been at the leading edge of digital and online offerings as well. In the early 2000s, OSM was quick to adopt then-novel technology to create digital e-newsletters, email campaigns, then later webinars, followed by events, content creation, podcasts, and video content.
